Tattoo Pricing

As we all know tattoo prices vary for multiple factors, the most common way to charge for a tattoo is the size. Most tattoo artists charge the amount based on the size of the tattoo yet your final tattoo cost will depend on factors like design, customization, materials used, etc. Your tattoo artist will inform you of the final cost when you meet them, but be sure to consult them before getting inked so you know what to expect.

Tattoo price calculator gives you a fair idea of how much a typical tattoo costs in a tattoo shop.

To give you a fair idea, a 1-inch tattoo will cost between Rs 300 and 3,000, depending on the skills of the artist, the hygiene policies followed and the equipment used. The cost varies according to the artist's level of experience. A novice artist will charge less than a more seasoned artist.

The cost of a multi-colour tattoo may vary because of the use of coloured ink in the creation of the tattoo. You must consult with your tattoo artist for more information on the cost of a 1-inch tattoo. If you visit a well-known tattoo artist or a celebrity tattoo artist, the cost will certainly be high, which may reach up to Rs. 3000 per sq inch.

Coloured 1-inch tattoos will cost a minimum of Rs 500 because of the coloured inks and the use of multiple needles or cartridges.

These prices are standard for popular tattoo shops all over India. When you make the decision to get a tattoo, always make sure that you get it from the most reputable and hygienic tattoo shops and that the prices aren't too cheap.

It's never a good idea to get these cheap tattoos as they can cause skin-related problems and even harmful diseases like HIV or cancer.

Apart from life-threatening diseases, cheap tattoos also come with drawbacks, such as:

1) Loss of sensitivity of the skin.
2) Poor tattoo finishing.
3) Irregular skin elasticity.
4) Constant irritation and discomfort on the tattoo site.
5) Tattoo removal is impossible.

The price of a permanent tattoo might range from Rs 300 per square inch to Rs 3,000.

To make things easier for you, here is our tattoo price calculator, that will give you a rough idea about the price of a tattoo based on the size and the tattoo shop.

Tattoo prices start as low as Rs 200-300 per square inch at some places in India. However minute the size of the tattoo is, there will be a base price that will be charged even if the tattoo is as small as a dot. But remember, the cheaper the tattoo price, the more you are exposed to health risks. Tattooing needs disposable equipment, the right material, artist time and skills; if all of them can not be cheap. If there is something cheap, there is always, risk of disposable needles not being used, gloves not being replaced, etc. Remember your health is important.
A tattoo is permanent and if the artist is not skilled and does a tattoo for a cheap price, the result may be bad. Removal of the tattoo would be very expensive, costing almost ten to 20 times the cost of the tattoo. Therefore think twice before you go for a cheap tattoo.

There is no fixed price for a full hand tattoo. The tattoo price varies(₹45k-₹65k on average in a metro city), based on factors like the quality of the tools used for tattooing, duration taken to complete the tattoo(depends on complexity and size), cost of services provided by the parlour and more. You should always consult with your desired tattoo artist about the price of a full hand tattoo before getting inked.

The tattoo price per inch can vary from tattoo shop to tattoo shop. Almost all of these shops charge per square inch of the tattooed area. The prices can range from Rs 499 to Rs 2999 per square inch. These prices are based on many factors, like the artist's level of experience, the equipment used, the hygiene policies followed, the intricacy of the design, and above all, the size. Size is the first and most important factor when it comes to tattoo pricing, as it is the first factor that is considered by the artists. Different artists charge different amounts based on their experience and status. A novice artist who just got into the tattoo industry won't charge as much as a celebrity tattoo artist who is well-known among tattoo enthusiasts and the tattoo industry as a whole.

The prices go up as the equipment that is used is of top-class quality. Quality equipment will cost more on the market, and the artists who use this type of equipment will charge more.

When it comes to tattooing, hygiene is crucial. For the sake of their clients' happiness, loyalty, and satisfaction, tattoo shops with a good reputation will always adhere to these guidelines. Since tattoo shops follow them strictly, it will cost them a lot of money, hence it will be included in your final bill.

Design intricacy also plays a crucial role in determining tattoo prices. The more complex the design, the more it will cost.

The most important aspect of the lot is its size. This is the primary factor that determines the tattoo price.

When it comes to full hand tattoos, there is no fixed price, as it differs(for example, ₹45k-₹65k on average for a full hand tattoo in a metro city), from artist to artist, due to many factors that are responsible for pricing, like the size, kind of art, use of ink, etc. For instance, in Bangalore, the price range of a full hand tattoo starts from as low as Rs 10,000 to as high as Rs 1,20,000 or more.

Select the right tattoo design for you

A tattoo often represents the sentimental values of an individual, but many people choose it for aesthetic reasons too. Your tattoo style can range from traditional and old school style to modern styles but either can have very deep meanings or can just be a simple representation of your likes/dislikes. For example, there are Lord Shiva tattoos, geometric tattoos, cute small tattoos, tiny tattoos and a lot more that can be designed in the above mentioned styles.

Take a good amount of time knowing what you want and why you want it. You can go with something that defines you or something you love. Knowing your design and style properly saves you from future regret trips over the tattoo you decided to get in the first place. After you have analysed it, you can go ahead and discuss the design with the right tattoo artist for you. We also have a list of tattoo shops that you can check out.

The process of finalizing the pattern, design and style of a tattoo is daunting yet fruitful. You imagine the tattoo in your mind and visualize how it will look on your body or you can always visit our tattoo designs page where you will get thousands of tattoo designs from where you can choose one. After the finalizing process, comes the next step, explaining the design to your tattoo artist. On the day of your tattoo session, you should always bring your references like a picture of the theme that you want to go with or a drawing, whichever suits you. Also, don’t feel shy to say what you want. Your tattoo artist is there to advise you and guide you, and it’s good to listen to them. However, if you know what you want, you just need to make your tattoo artist understand your idea and you are good to go.

To make things easy, checkout our list of tattoo shops and book a consultation with your desired studio and leave the rest to us. We will set up the meetings with a tattoo artist, facilitate and moderate conversations between you two and always ensure that you get the best results from the discussions that you have with the tattoo artist. It doesn’t matter on which hand you get inked. Most people visit the tattoo artist without deciding which hand they want to get tattooed. All that matters is that the design is good. There are tons of hand tattoo designs like flowers, mandala art, Trishul, portrait, simple ring shaped tattoos and a lot more to choose from. Also, if you want matching tattoos on both hands, you can choose designs from jhaiho.com.

When it comes to choosing a tattoo design, the aim is to have the tattoo on your body for a long haul. So, when it comes to choosing the tattoo design, you need to follow the steps below:

  1. 1.Gather inspiration: You can gather inspiration from the previous designs that a tattoo artist has done or you can visit jhaiho.com where you can browse through thousands of tattoo designs that will inspire you enough to pick one. You can pick anyone based on their skill and experience. The artist will work with you to create the perfect design. Discuss with the artist your idea and brainstorm a few ideas based on your discussion and then decide on the design that fits you.
  3. 2.Ask yourself why you want a tattoo: You should always ask yourself first what inspires you to get a tattoo. A reason should always guide your tattoo design. A tattoo is something you will cherish forever if you pick the correct design.

Designing your own tattoo is a great way to be unique. It’s something that you own and nobody else. But how to design is the question here. To design something unique, you can take inspiration from Jhaiho where there are thousands of tattoo designs available that will enhance your aesthetic sense and will give you the right direction to choose a tattoo you will cherish forever. In no time, your design will be ready.

Another way to design your tattoo is that you can collaborate with a tattoo artist to create your own design from scratch. Consult with him/her, explain your vision, figure the placement of the tattoo, discuss the pain factor , and decide the colour scheme.

Choosing your next tattoo could be a long process because it includes a lot of brainstorming, picking out a theme (if you want to follow a specific one based on your previous tattoo or any other theme), style and design. Though the entire procedure is lengthy, the outcome is always fruitful. But, if you are facing trouble choosing your next tattoo, just follow these steps:

  1. 1.Pick a spot: You should always pick the spot on your body before even coming up with the design. For instance, some tattoos only look good in the chest area but if you choose the same tattoo to be placed on your thigh area, it may not look good. So, picking the spot is an important step.
  2. 2.Finalize the design: Next comes finalizing the tattoo design. You can design your own tattoo or take the help of our tattoo artists You can also visit the Jhaiho website where there are lots of designs to choose from.

Tattoo removal

According to a study done by the Skin Cancer Foundation, laser tattoo removal doesn’t directly cause skin cancer. However, laser tattoo removal can make the skin photosensitive, making the skin vulnerable to sun damage.

The price of tattoo removal depends upon the number of tattoo removal sessions you have to attend which is directly related to the size, colour, depth of ink penetrated inside the skin, and the age of the tattoo. So it may be difficult to state a price for the same.

There are various tattoo removal creams available in the market which will fade the tattoo from your skin. But, it is advised to consult a dermatologist first before applying a tattoo removal cream because every skin is different and needs different care.

Laser tattoo removal is the best tattoo removal process as it is the most effective process. The laser light is directed into the skin where the tattoo is to be removed. The laser light is set to wavelength depending on the colour. When the tattoo ink absorbs the laser light, the ink particles are shattered into tiny particles and removed. When we talk about length of the treatment, it varies depending on the area being treated and the depth of ink penetrated inside the skin. A large tattoo will require multiple sittings but the number will vary based on the area and the ink penetration.

Intervals between treatments are also a key factor. Treating again after the first sitting can lead to skin irritation and open wounds. The average time taken for the tattoo removal is between 4 to 6 weeks. But of course, the time will be different for different people.

Tattoo Hygiene

To date, there is no evidence that tattoos cause cancer. However, according to WHO ’s International Agency for Research on Cancer, low quality tattoo ink contains carcinogens (cancer-causing substances). But, there is no evidence that tattoos cause cancer.

When it comes to tattoo removal, most people take the step for employment reasons. The long term effects on our bodies aren’t at the top of the list. When you are piercing your body to get a tattoo, you are automatically opening your body to the possibility of infection. That’s why taking care of the tattoo is given utmost importance. Other risks involve skin infection, bloodborne diseases, complications with MRIs, and other skin related issues. Although many of these can be treated, they shouldn’t be taken lightly.

Traditionally tattoos were a part of our culture and were often regarded as symbols that connect us spiritually to a higher power. But, things took a drastic turn in the last 100 years and the tattoo culture started to be looked down even to the point of “evil” and “bad influence in the society”. Most people with tattoos were often blamed to have a connection with witchcraft and black magic. But let us make this clear that tattoos don’t define your behaviour and they don’t affect the society negatively. Tattoos are an art and art needs to be appreciated.

Tattoos are about self-expression and pieces of great art on your body, but the tattooing process involves the usage of needles that create holes on the outer layer of the skin which can lead to skin infections, allergic reactions, bloodborne diseases and other skin related diseases but the best part is, all of them are curable.

Most people don’t experience any health problems related to tattoos. But there is a risk of skin infection as you will be piercing your skin for a tattoo but such a disease can be cured.  It is always advised to use sanitized equipment. Jhaiho assures you that our tattoo artists use fresh needles and gloves in every single tattoo session. The ink used in the process is also of good quality. They also use clean spaces for the entire process.

According to experts, temporary tattoos have potential side effects. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration here are some side effects of temporary tattoos:

  1. Redness where the tattoo is applied
  2. Blistering skin
  3. Formation of red skin lesions
  4. Loss of skin pigmentation
  5. Greater sensitivity to sunlight
  6. Permanent scarring
P.S. : The side effects will differ for everyone. Not all will get the same side effects because every skin is different and reacts differently to tattoos

While there are numerous risks mentioned related to tattoos, some miss out on their benefits. Here are a few good things about tattoos:

  1. When you get a tattoo, the body releases endorphins. Endorphins relieve the body from stress and pain. When they release, you feel euphoric.
  2. Tattoos increase self-confidence. It acts as a boosting factor for people.
  3. Tattoos help you in expressing yourself. It allows you to wear your heart on your sleeve and as a result, the heart pumps out good feelings making you feel happy and content with life.
  4.  Tattoos reduce cortisol (stress hormone) levels in the body as a result, the stress levels are decreased in the person.

Post tattoo care

Although getting the tattoo of your dreams is exciting, taking excellent care of it is extremely important. Every tattoo enthusiast should always take a number of preventative measures to speed up the healing of tattoos. The food you consume after getting the tattoo is very crucial and must be looked at very carefully until the tattoo has completely healed. There are particular types of foods, like ready-made juices and sodas; fried foods and fast food, such as chips, pastries, and French fries; pork and processed meats, such as fresh and smoked sausage, ham, bacon, mortadella, and salami; sweets, stuffed biscuits, cakes, and chocolates; cereal bars; instant noodles; stock cubes; ready-to-eat frozen meals; ice cream; and alcoholic beverages.
These foods are not only bad for you in the long run, but they can also cause acute skin inflammation and skin problems after getting tattooed or pierced, which will ultimately hinder the healing process.
Instead, foods that are rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds should be consumed more. Foods with the most antioxidant properties include tomatoes, red fruits, citrus fruits like oranges, and herbs such as garlic, onion, and saffron. Follow a healthy diet, and we promise you that your tattoo will heal more quickly.

Maintaining your tattoo is beneficial for you and crucial for your health. It speeds up the healing process and helps to avoid infections or skin problems. Make sure that you start taking care of your dream tattoo from the get-go to ensure its longevity.

Cover it up

For starters, always make sure your artist coats your tattoo with a thin layer of tattoo wax and covers the tattoo with a bandage or plastic wrap. Keep the tattoo area covered for at least 24 hours for the best results. This helps keep the tattoo site from getting irritated by external sources.

Clean the tattoo site

Clean the area with some lukewarm water, pat it dry, and apply some tattoo wax again. This time, keep the site open and let your skin breathe. Make sure the ointment you choose is alcohol- and fragrance-free, as harsh chemicals and fragrances can irritate and even damage freshly tattooed skin. Keep up with this process until the tattoo is completely healed for the best results.

Tattoos, as you know, are a lifetime commitment, and some effort is required to keep them looking good. Here are some dos and don'ts that you can keep in mind.

Do's

1. Drink lots of water to keep the skin hydrated.
2. Cover the tattoo as it heals whenever it could be exposed to the sun using clothing or a bandage.
3. Always use a moisturizer which is free of alcohol and fragrance or tattoo wax after the skin is fully dry to avoid further infections. Coconut oil is the best moisturizer you can find.
4. Wash the tattoo after very intense workouts on a frequent basis, and the soap used should not include any harsh chemicals. Take care that you always wash your tattoo site gently. Refer to the above section(Aftercare for your new tattoo) for the right guideline on washing your tattoo.

Don't's

1. Do not scratch the tattooed area constantly even if the temptation to do so is high. Itching is a sign of healing and you should bear with this or it will cause further complications on the tattoo site.
2. Do not pick on the scabs as this can cause scar tissue to form
3. Do not go swimming until the tattoo is fully healed.

Day 1:

While it’s exciting to show off your new tattoo, it’s essential to care for it correctly as well.
Sleep well : Choose the right posture, clock-in the shut-eye. It will help your tattoo heal better and faster.
Limit your travel and social plans : The less you socialise, the less the risk of infection.
Listen to your tattoo artist : Follow all after-care instructions carefully and consult your tattoo artist before removing the dermalize wrap.
Wear loose clothes : Avoid letting any fabric touch the tattoo area. To know more on what to wear, check out our blog post.
Stay dry : Keep your tattoo away from water. Cover it while bathing and don’t swim for a bit.
Keep calm : Depending on the size of your tattoo and your skin type, you may experience some redness, swelling or itchiness in the area. Don’t worry, this is entirely normal.
Keep it away from pets : Fur, hair and germs may infect your tattoo if you don’t guard that area against your furry friends.

Day 7:

At this point in time, your tattoo will go through the first stage of healing. Keep these tips in mind to accelerate the healing process.
Drink up : Staying hydrated will help keep your skin moist and soothe the dryness/itchiness.
Don’t scratch : We know it can get really itchy, but refrain from scratching your tattoo area. Allow the scabs to form and fall off naturally.
Keep it clean : If you’re outdoors a lot, make sure you keep the tattoo area clean and sweat-free by washing adequately.
Use recommended products : We advise you to use the after-care products your tattoo artist recommended. However, do not overuse them as that could harm the healing process.
Avoid physical activities : Remember, you’re still healing. Your gym and workout routines can wait.

Day 14:

At this point, the tattoo would begin to heal completely. But keep giving your tattoo all the love it deserves.
Check your tattoo thoroughly : Check it carefully for incomplete patches, blemishes, faded spots or blowouts. If you see anything you don’t like, please reach out to a Jhaiho tattoo advisor.
Clean your tattoo : Use lukewarm water to gently clean the area regularly.
Don’t over-worry : Your tattoo may look a bit dull or cloudy. But don’t worry, the sharpness will return as your tattoo heals. Please contact your tattoo advisor for any assistance regarding this.
Be patient : The healing process will take time, so your tattoo area may still be dry and itchy.
Check for pain : Your swelling and redness should have reduced, and your tattoo should be relatively painless now.
Don’t shave/wax : We know you want to flaunt your tattoo but hold on for a bit longer. Consult your tattoo artist if you absolutely cannot wait.

Day 21:

By now, your tattoo should have settled and any flaws should be long gone. But it is still essential to keep caring for your tattoo. Read on and keep loving your tattoo.
Wait to work out : The healing process is almost over, so just hang on a little bit longer before indulging in any excessive physical activity.
Check for dryness : Ideally, the dryness and itchiness should have completely gone. In case they haven’t, please contact your tattoo artist.
Keep your skin healthy : The healthier your skin is, the healthier your tattoo will be. So make sure you’re following a good skincare routine – internally as well as externally.
Keep calm and love your tattoo! We’ll check back with you soon.

1 Month

At this point, your tattoo has completely healed. But it's vital that you keep giving it care and love.
Keep your skin healthy : The healthier your skin is, the healthier your tattoo will be.
Avoid excessive sunlight : Tanning can dull your tattoo, so give your skin the right sun protection.
Try to maintain your weight : A sudden loss or gain in your weight could distort your tattoo.

The outer skin heals after 2–3 weeks of receiving a tattoo. However, the skin beneath the tattoo takes about 6 months to recover. So, even if the outside skin appears to be healed, don't let up on the aftercare. Keep up with the aftercare for a 6-month period.

Your tattoo will look like a billion bucks once you leave the shop. It will continue to shine. That won't last long. The tattoo will gradually fade. Always use sunscreen, especially in the summer, to keep the colours vibrant; SPF 45 or greater is ideal.
And moisturize it on a regular basis, especially if it's in an area of your body where it might fade fast, like your hands.

Tattoo procedure

A tattoo is a permanent kind of body art that is made of designs by puncturing the skin with needles and injecting ink. Once the ink is deposited into the second layer of the skin known as the dermis, the skin heals to expose the design.

A tattoo is made by puncturing the skin with needles to make a design with the help of ink or sometimes dyes.

A tattoo is made permanent by injecting ink into the skin using needles. The pigment particles used in inks are too large for the skin cells to destroy so they get stuck in the innermost layer of the skin called the subcutaneous layer. This layer is located underneath the dermis. The tattoo then shows through the skin that you chose.

Yes, tattoos hurt as the process involves needles piercing your skin’s top layer. Though people may experience different levels of pain, the most painful places to get a tattoo are places with the least fat, more nerve endings and the thinnest skin layering.
