The Lion King: Tattoos, Quotes, and Life Lessons
For those of us who grew up on it, The Lion King taught us a lot about family, life, friendship – and even love!
It also introduced us to pain, grief, and heartbreak.
One of its most important lessons, however, was the now-infamous Swahili phrase ‘hakuna matata’ – ‘it means no worries’!
This ‘problem-free philosophy’ was basically the 90s version of #yolo, except maybe a little more wholesome.
But life isn’t always problem-free. The wise Pumbaa once said: “you got to put your behind in your past.”
Not sure what that means? Well, the equally-wise Rafiki said something very similar: “…the past can hurt. But from the way I see it, you can either run from it – or learn from it.”
Let’s face it – since The Lion King first came out in 1994 we’ve all grown up quite a bit. And have seen some pain of our own.
The past sure can hurt and boy do we all have a new understanding of what Rafiki meant! But for all its pain, there are lessons to be learned from the past – and there are better, brighter days ahead!
Learning from the past helps us grow into better versions of ourselves. But growth does not have to mean changing who we are!
As Mufasa once hauntingly echoed through the skies: “Remember who you are.”
Heed Mufasa’s advice and stay true to who you are! Weather the storm that is life and find your place in this ever-changing world.
The mighty Mufasa taught us yet another important lesson: “Being brave doesn’t mean you go looking for trouble.”
It takes far more courage to face ourselves than it ever takes to face someone else.
Truly looking at ourselves and acknowledging our own strengths and faults is one of the hardest things to do – just ask Scar! He paid the ultimate price for this fatal mistake.
Looking deep within ourselves may be hard but do it we must, for it is important to our self-growth!
